SUMMARY

InfoExpress has confirmed an interaction between the "Host Virtual Adapters" installed with VMWare Workstation and VSClient running on Vista or Windows 7 hosts.

Applicability

This interaction has been confirmed on VSClient version 7.1.080909 and applies to Vista or Windows 7 hosts only.

Description

If VMWare workstation is installed on a host system that then tries to use VSClient, access to resources through the VPN may be limited or completely unavailable. This has been confirmed on both Vista and Windows 7 for both 32 bit and 64 bit systems.
As a workaround it is recommended to disable the virtual network adapters for VMNet 1 and VMNet 8 on the host. Using bridged networking e.g. on VMNet0 will not be affected. Also, guest VMs will still be able to use VMNet1 or VMNet 8 but will not be able to talk directly to the host.
This workaround has been confirmed on VMWare Workstation 6.5.3 build 185404. There has been one report of an earlier 6.5 build where this workaround was not successful.
